UPDATES AND IMPORTANT INFORMATION

Congratulations to Ashley Harmon and Jonathan Weems, who were
recognized by the Virginia Association of Rehabilitation
Professionals for outstanding service at the state conference on May
21, 2010.
Ashley Harmon, past president of VARP and chair for this year’s
state conference, was awarded Rehabilitation Professional of the
Year in recognition of her tireless work in behalf of rehabilitation
education and support of the VARP projects. The group expressed
strong support for her willingness to help in ways far beyond the
call of duty.
As a case manager for Paradigm, she works with local case managers
throughout the region to oversee the progress of approximately fifty
catastrophic cases, so that her hard work also benefits many
families in their time of greatest needs. She also is married and
the mom to a delightful 2 year daughter, Lizzie, so her life is both
rich and very full.
We all wish her well in her continued efforts—and we appreciate
her willingness to share some of that very full life with our
organization.

Jonathan Weems of Roanoke was awarded Rehabilitation
Client/Employee of the Year. Jon, an accomplished musician who
played numerous instruments, became quadriplegic following a diving
accident in 1992. He has continued his singing/composing and does
input of his musical compositions into a synthesizer using a
mouthstick into a typing keyboard/sequencer. His latest CD, “I
Believe” was recorded with the greatest portion of profits being
donated towards brain injury services in the Roanoke Valley where,
suffering from severe funding cutbacks, services are being hard hit.
Jon is the chairman of the Public Relations Sub-Committee to the
Roanoke Area Mayor’s Committee for People with Disabilities. He is
an active promoter of Phoenix Star Clubhouse, a transitional
facility for people with brain injuries and the only facility of its
kind in western Virginia. Jon personifies the highest levels of the
rehabilitative spirit, living a full life focused on his abilities
not his disabilities, and the honor is ours to present him with this
award as Rehabilitation Client of the Year.
