Presenter: Mr. Lawrence has presented nationally renowned courses
for over 15 years focusing on the rehabilitation of ambulatory
dysfunction caused by amputation, traumatic injury, corrective
surgery and degenerative joint disease, as well as courses on
disabled sports and recreation. He has worked with the Veterans
Administration and with Sheltering Arms. Presently, David is the
president of Lawrence Rehabilitation Specialists Inc. and runs "The
Gait Center" an outpatient private practice that treats only
patients with ambulatory disorders. He is also the program director
for AT Home Care and is one of the founders and Rehabilitation
Coordinator for the Walking Free project of Physicians for Peace.
Inservice Description: This inservice introduces a true continuum of
care model for the rehabilitation of patients suffering ambulatory
dysfunction. The inservice stresses an interdisciplinary team
approach and provides the attendee with the scope of specialized
services needed to fully rehabilitate these patients. Attention will
be placed on the time period from discharge from the hospital to
maximum patient rehabilitation. A broad spectrum of prosthetic and
orthotic componentry as well as durable medical equipment will be
available for review.
Objectives: Upon completion of this 2 hour inservice attendees will
be able to:
" List imperative equipment needed to ensure early rehabilitation
successes.
" Describe the basics regarding fit and function of present day
prosthetics and orthotics
" List the biomechanical phases of normal human locomotion
" Identify key components associated with recapturing functional
independence following ambulatory dysfunction
" Coordinate a systematic rehabilitation plan for patients suffering
ambulatory dysfunction to maximize their outcomes
